Modern tech a must for surgical item makers | The Express Tribune

Sialkot Deputy Commissioner Adnan Mehmood Awan has said that Sialkot is second to none in the world in the manufacturing of surgical instruments, highlighting the region’s importance in the field. The surgical instrument industry is a value-added industry that earns significant foreign exchange for Pakistan by exporting $500 million worth of products annually. He expressed those views while speaking at a meeting with members of the Surgical Instrument Manufacturers Association of Pakistan after the inauguration of the Technology and Innovation Summit 2023.

Awan emphasised that the promotion of modern technology and research was the need of the hour for the development of Sialkot’s surgical instrument manufacturing sector. Keeping that in mind, the association took an initiative as it organised the Technology and Innovation Exhibition. According to the vision of the chief minister and chief secretary of Punjab, the required land has been acquired for setting up a surgical city for the rapid advancement of the industry. In this regard, the progress is reviewed frequently in association with the Punjab Industries Department.

On the occasion, Association Chairman Yusuf Hasan Bajwa appreciated the efforts of the deputy commissioner for acquiring the necessary land for establishing the surgical city. The deputy commissioner also inspected the stalls set up at the exhibition. Association’s Chief Coordinator Jahangir Babar Bajwa, SVC Faisal Ikram and representatives of various feeding agencies affiliated with the surgical industry were present on the occasion.
